Triads: Layering
Goal: To combine elements of music with improvisational concepts.
In Tempo
Singing/Playing
Teacher landscapes a time signature and with varied tempos in two-four, three-four, four-four, compound meters, and asymmetric meters.
Beginning
Singing in three-part harmony, in a slow tempo, with dynamics, and different divisions of the beat for each chord tone, use "change" and call and response to vary triad type.
Intermediate
Use the smorgasbord, change, with chord-tone substitutions, triad inversions, and dynamics to alter the type of triad.
Advanced
Set up a chord progression over which students sing only triadic melodies, in different inversions with variations of accents, textures, chord type and inversions.
