Dynamics: Landscaping
Goal: To experience different types of dynamics and nuances among similar types of dynamics.
Out of Tempo
Beginning
Creating a common dynamic: listening to others humming.
- All students hum in a different dynamic: soft, medium, or loud.
- The teacher guides the class to match a basic loud, medium, or soft dynamic that they themselves determine or by choosing one of the student’s dynamics.
Intermediate
- The teacher hums a sound at a specific dynamic.
- Individual student matches the sound’s dynamic level.
Advanced
- The teacher hums a sound at a specific dynamic.
- Individual student matches the sound, then hums a bit softer, then matches the sound, then hums a bit louder. This develops a sense of more nuanced levels of dynamics than just soft, medium, and loud.
In Tempo
The above exercises can be done in specific amounts of time based on different counts.
For example: All of the exercises below can be done in 2, 3, or 4-time.
