Melody: Landscaping
Goal: To set up improvisations with a focus on melodies as chains of notes with 2 to 3 note chains.
Out of Tempo
Beginning
- Teacher speaks, "1, 2, 3," "C, D, E," and then "Doe, Rey, Mi."
- Students repeat.
- Teacher speaks, "1, 3, 2."
- Students repeat.
- Teacher speaks, "2, 1, 3."
- Students repeat.
This process repeats with different combinations of 1, 2, 3.
Intermediate
- Teacher sings, "1, 2, 3."
- Students repeat.
- Teacher continues to sing different combinations of 1, 2, 3.
- Students repeat.
Advanced
- Teacher sings major or minor, "1, 2, 3."
- Students repeat.
More Advanced
- Teacher sings major or minor, "1, 2, 3."
- One student at a time sings, "1, 2, 3."
- Next student either sings the same as the previous student or switches.
In Tempo
Teacher sets up time signature, singing a three note chain, using one rhythm per time signature: half, dotted half, or whole note.
