Goal: To experience meter by changing from one to another.


Out of Tempo

Beginning

  1. Teacher prompts, “I’m speaking a time signature (meter) and you answer with another one."
  2. Students answer with a different time signature.

Intermediate

  1. Teacher prompts, “I’m speaking the counts of a meter. You answer with the counts of a different meter."
  2. Students answer with the counts of a different time signature.

Advanced

  1. Teacher prompts, “I’m speaking the counts of a simple meter, you answer with the counts of a compound meter.”
  2. Students answer with the counts of a compound meter.

  1. Teacher prompts, “I’m setting up a time signature clapping/ta-ing/playing/singing and you repeat it. When I say ‘change’ you change to a different time signature.”
  2. Students begin a time signature.
  3. Teacher prompts, “Change.”
  4. Students change to a different time signature.

Intermediate

  1. Teacher prompts, “I’m setting up a time signature clapping/ta-ing/playing/singing and you repeat it. When I say change you change to a different time signature conducting throughout.”
  2. Students begin a time signature.
