Triads: Patterning



Goal: To hear and sing triads in root position using movement.


Out of Tempo

Spoken, numbers, letters, intervals, solfege, chord tones

Beginning

  1. Teacher shows on their body and speaks, “Waist = root, ribs = third, chin = fifth.”
  2. Students move and repeat.

Intermediate

  1. Teacher shows and speaks, “Waist = root, chin = fifth, ribs = third.”
  2. Students move and repeat.

Advanced

Rotating around a different chord tone but root remains lowest note

  1. Teacher shows and speaks, “Ribs = third, chin = fifth, waist = root.”
  2. Students repeat.

In Tempo

Sung using chord tones, remaining in root position – root is lowest note and in two-four, three-four, or four-four using one note per measure.

Beginning

  1. Teacher shows on their body and sings, “Root, third, fifth.”
  2. Students move and repeat.

Intermediate

  1. Teacher shows on their body and sings, “Root, fifth, third.”
  2. Students move and repeat.

Advanced

Rotating around a different chord tone but root remains lowest note

  1. Teacher shows on their body and sings, “Third, fifth, root.”
  2. Students repeat.
