Scales: Layering
Goal: To combine elements of music with improvisational concepts.
In Tempo
Singing/Playing
Teacher Landscapes a time signature and with varied tempos in two-four, three-four, four-four, or six-eight.
Beginning
Choose a pentatonic scale and layer it with dynamics and textures. Use arithmetic with call and response, adding a new note to the scale with students one at a time.
Intermediate
Layer whole tone scales with the prompt "change" to vary meters. Add accents on the downbeats to vary the relationship of scale degree to meter.
Advanced
Using the prompt "change" with call and response, switch back and forth between major or minor scales with pentatonic or whole tone scales. To add further complexity layer dynamic, texture and accent changes.
