Harmonic Progressions: Layering



Goal: To combine elements of music with improvisational concepts.


Out of Tempo

Beginner

Accelerando/Ritardando, Crescendo/Decrescendo, Compound Meter with Arithmetic, Patterning, Call and Response.

Intermediate

Crescendo/Decrescendo, Triplets, Scales with Arithmetic, Change, Smorgasbord.

Advanced

Compound Meter, Melody, Harmony with Call and Response, Change, Smorgasbord.

In Tempo

Singing/Playing

Teacher landscapes a time signature and with varied tempos in two-four, three-four, four-four, or six-eight.

Beginning

Choose a four-chord progression and using call and response, each student sings a melody on top of the progression.

Intermediate

Using the prompt, "change," a four-chord progression is altered from a major key to a minor key and vice versa.

Advanced

Using the smorgasbord and the prompt, "change" each student sings the chord contents melodically of a different chord progression.
