Intervals: Call and Response
Goal: To hear intervals with social activities.
Out of Tempo
Speaking, singing, playing.
Teacher chooses an interval or students choose an interval.
Beginning
- Student sings an interval up and down.
- Another student repeats that interval up and down.
Intermediate
- A student sings an interval down and up.
- Another student repeats that interval down and up.
Advanced
- A student sings an interval up.
- Another student sings the same interval down.
In Tempo
Beginning
- A student sets up a tempo, time signature, major or minor key, rhythm.
- A different student chooses an interval using the same time signature.
- A different student sings the interval up and down in tempo using the same time signature.
Intermediate
- A student sets up a tempo, time signature, major or minor key, rhythm and prompts, “One student sings the lower note of an interval, a different student sings above that note.”
- The process continues until all students have sung two notes of an interval above and below.
Advanced
- A Student sets up a tempo, time signature, major or minor key, rhythm and prompts, “One student sings the upper note of an interval, a different student sings (interval) below that note.”
- The process continues until all students have sung two notes of an interval from above to below.
