Intervals: Change
Goal: To alternate between interval types through speaking, singing, and playing (that can also be organized by one student at a time and "changing students" as well).
Out of Tempo
Questions and answers.
Beginning
- Teacher prompts, “Here is interval x. repeating the lower note, change it to interval y.”
- Students do so.
Intermediate
- Teacher prompts, “Here is interval x. Repeating the upper note, change it to interval y.”
- Students do so.
Advanced
- Teacher prompts, “Here is interval x. What interval do you get when you move the lower and upper notes in the opposite direction by interval z?”
- Students answer.
In Tempo
Teacher sets up a tempo, time signature, and tonality.
Singing and playing.
Beginning
- Teacher sets up as above and prompts, “When I say 'change', turn interval x in to interval y by changing the upper note.”
- Students do so.
Intermediate
- Teacher sets up as above and prompts, “When I say 'change', turn interval x in to interval y by changing the lower note.”
- Students do so.
Advanced
- Teacher sets up as above and prompts, “When I say change, turn interval x in to interval y by changing both notes by interval z.”
- Students do so.
