Intervals: Layering



Goal: To combine elements of music with improvisational concepts.


Out of Tempo

Speaking.

Beginning

Accelerando/Ritardando, Cresendo/Decrescendo, Compound Meter with Arithmetic, Patterning, Call and Response.

Intermediate

Crescendo/Decrescendo, Triplets, Scales with Arithmetic, Change, Smorgasbord.

Advanced

Compound Meter, Melody, Harmony with Call and Response, Change, Smorgasbord.

In Tempo

Singing/Playing

Teacher landscapes a time signature and with varied tempos in two-four, three-four, four-four, or six-eight.

Beginning

A student sings a third. Using the prompt, "change," another student calls out changes in dynamics, textures, and accents.

Intermediate

A student creates a pattern of intervals. Another student sings the same interval content in a different order.

Advanced

Using call and response, four students trade harmonic intervals. Two students sing one harmonic interval, the other two sing a different harmonic interval.
