Melody: Landscaping



Goal: To create melodies within a sustained tonality through the use of an electronic keyboard or other sustaining instrument (and the teacher may limit the notes to three or four notes only or decide to allow notes to be repeated or not).


Out of Tempo

Beginning

  1. Teacher sustains all eight notes of a major or minor scale.
  2. Teacher prompts, “Speak three notes upward using letters.”
  3. Students speak three notes using letters.

Intermediate

  1. Teacher sustains all eight notes of a major or minor scale.
  2. Teacher prompts, “Speak three notes downward using letters.”
  3. Students speak three notes using letters.

Advanced

  1. Teacher sustains all eight notes of a major of minor scale.
  2. Teacher prompts, “Speak three notes upward and downward using letters.”
  3. Students speak notes upward and downward using letters.

In Tempo

Teacher sets up a slow tempo in 2, 3, or 4 time but not adding an accompaniment, sustaining all eight notes of the major (minor) scale. Students will sing one, two, three, or four notes per measure depending on the time signature.

  1. Teacher sustains all eight notes of a major of minor scale.
  2. Teacher prompts, “Sing three notes upward and downward using solfege.”
  3. Students sing three notes upward and downward using number, letters, solfege.
