Rhythm: Patterning
Goal: To use patterns to learn quarter note triplets.
Out of Tempo
Beginning
- Teacher speaks “1 2 3, 1 2 3/1 2, 1 2, 1 2” in the same pulse, but not in a tempo.
- Students repeat.
Accent the 'bold' number.
Intermediate
- Teacher speaks, "Doe, Rey, Mi, Doe, Rey, Mi/Doe Rey, Mi Doe, Rey Mi."
- Students repeat.
Advanced
- Teacher speaks, "Doe Rey Mi, Doe Rey Mi/Doe Rey, Mi Doe, Rey Mi" and adds a clap on the highlighted notes.
- Students repeat.
In Tempo
Teacher sets up a slow tempo in four-four time signatures, singing the above exercise.
Beginner
- Teacher sings “1 2 3, 1 2 3/1 2, 1 2, 1 2."
- Students repeat.
Intermediate
- Teacher sings, "Doe Rey Mi, Doe Rey Mi/Doe Rey, Mi Doe, Rey Mi."
- Students repeat.
