Scales: Landscaping



Goal: To focus on the three forms of minor scales.


Out of Tempo

In keys other than C minor.

Beginning

  1. Teacher plays all eight notes of the natural minor scale at the same time on a keyboard.
  2. Students speak the notes of the scale in letters with accidentals.

Intermediate

  1. Teacher plays all eight notes of the harmonic minor scale at the same time on a keyboard.
  2. Students speak the notes of the scale in letters with accidentals.

Advanced

  1. Teacher plays all eight notes of the melodic minor scale at the same time on a keyboard.
  2. Students speak all the notes of the scale in letters with accidentals.

In Tempo

Teacher sets up a slow tempo, then plays all the notes together, students keep the same tempo singing one note per measure. Teacher does not play the tempo for the students while they sing.

Beginning

  1. Teacher plays all eight notes of the natural minor scale at the same time on a keyboard.
  2. Students sing the natural minor scale one note per measure.

Intermediate

  1. Teacher plays all eight notes of the harmonic minor scale at the same time on a keyboard.
  2. Students sing the harmonic minor scale one note per measure.

Advanced

  1. Teacher plays all eight notes of the melodic minor scale at the same time on a keyboard.
  2. Students the melodic minor scale one note per measure.
