Seventh Chords: Layering



Goal: To combine elements of music with improvisational concepts.


Out of Tempo

Speaking.

Beginning

Accelerando/Ritardando, Crescendo/Decrescendo, Compound Meter with Arithmetic, Patterning, Call and Response.

Intermediate

Crescendo/Decrescendo, Triplets, Scales with Arithmetic, Change, Smorgasbord.

Advanced

Compound Meter, Melody, Harmony with Call and Response, Change, Smorgasbord.

In Tempo

Singing/Playing

Teacher landscapes a time signature and with varied tempos in two-four, three-four, four-four, or six-eight.

Beginning

Using call and response, students trade dominant, major, and minor seventh chords.

Intermediate

Students sing individual chord tones of a different seventh chord layering them with different dynamics, textures, and accents.

Advanced

Using the smorgasbord and the prompt, ‘change,’ four students sing in harmony, adding notes from bottom up.
