Melody: Landscaping



Goal: To set up improvisations with a focus on melodies as chains of notes with 2 to 3 note chains.


Out of Tempo

Beginning

  1. Teacher speaks, "1, 2, 3," "C, D, E," and then "Doe, Rey, Mi."
  2. Students repeat.
  3. Teacher speaks, "1, 3, 2."
  4. Students repeat.
  5. Teacher speaks, "2, 1, 3."
  6. Students repeat.

This process repeats with different combinations of 1, 2, 3.

Intermediate

  1. Teacher sings, "1, 2, 3."
  2. Students repeat.
  3. Teacher continues to sing different combinations of 1, 2, 3.
  4. Students repeat.

Advanced

  1. Teacher sings major or minor, "1, 2, 3."
  2. Students repeat.

More Advanced

  1. Teacher sings major or minor, "1, 2, 3."
  2. One student at a time sings, "1, 2, 3."
  3. Next student either sings the same as the previous student or switches.

In Tempo

Teacher sets up time signature, singing a three note chain, using one rhythm per time signature: half, dotted half, or whole note.

  1. Teacher sings, "1, 2, 3," "C, D, E," and then "Doe Rey, Mi."
  2. Students repeat.
  3. Teacher sings, "1, 3, 2."
  4. Students repeat.
  5. Teacher sings, "2, 1, 3."
  6. Students repeat.
